At HDB, innovation and ease of use are central. Based on concrete practical challenges, we develop smart solutions that improve precision, safety, and efficiency. Whether it concerns accurate dosing or more hygienic working: our products are designed to make a difference for both professionals and end users.
Dosing ring
Horses regularly require medication, which is often administered via a paste syringe. However, this presented a significant problem: administration was often inaccurate and awkward. Because a horse moves during administration, it was difficult to give exactly the right amount. As a result, both overdosing and underdosing occurred regularly.
To solve this problem, HDB developed the dosing ring. With this, guesswork is a thing of the past and precision becomes the norm.
The dosing ring is placed on the stem of the paste syringe and locks the syringe at a precise point. This allows you to administer the correct amount of medication very accurately, which is important because the dose usually depends on the animal’s weight. Because the syringe physically stops against the ring, too much paste cannot be administered accidentally if the horse suddenly moves.
Larger syringes, such as the 60 ml ones, contain a lot of product. However, thanks to the dosing ring, they can be used for multiple animals. The ring is easy to reset, so you always know exactly how much you are administering, how much is left in the syringe, and how many animals you can still treat.
In addition, HDB designed these syringes with an extra-wide opening, specifically for the thick viscosity of medicinal pastes and gels. Something that is not possible with standard syringes.
In 2016, another innovation was introduced: a child-safe closure on the cap for even greater safety.
Flat end applicator
The design of the ‘flat end applicator’ differs from the classic round nozzle and offers several important advantages. Unlike a traditional syringe, where the liquid is sprayed into the throat in a straight stream, the flat opening distributes the liquid to the sides of the mouth, towards the cheeks. This reduces the risk of gagging or choking and allows the child to swallow the medication more calmly.
The flat shape is better suited to a baby’s small mouth and therefore feels more comfortable. Furthermore, the syringe fits snugly onto the adapter in the bottle, which prevents spills and allows for accurate dosing.
Because the liquid does not land directly on the back of the tongue or in the throat, the taste is perceived as less intense. This increases the likelihood that children will accept the medication more easily.
In combination with the plug, this forms a convenient dosing system where the syringe remains clean during administration, contributing to hygienic use.
A fun fact is that one of our best-known products is the syringe for Nurofen. The striking orange color was not chosen by accident. Orange is considered a pleasant and friendly color for children, making the syringe look less like a medical item.
Dual end cap
At HDB, we continue to push the boundaries of veterinary administration. With the introduction of our dual end cap for intramammary syringes, we offer a solution designed to optimize both hygiene and animal comfort.
Our dual end cap is engineered with a focus on precision and safety. These are the key benefits.
First, there is superior hygiene. The unique breakable tip prevents accidental contact with the environment prior to administration, significantly reducing the risk of cross-contamination.
Second, we have the dual-tip functionality. The cannula provides the flexibility of a short tip (for partial insertion) or full length, helping to better preserve the natural barrier of the teat canal.
Then there is the ease of usage. Thanks to the intuitive break mechanism, users can act quickly and efficiently, even under demanding stable conditions.
Last but not least, we thought about animal welfare. The smooth finish and precise fit minimize tissue damage to the teat canal, ensuring a less stressful treatment process for the cow.
With this innovation, HDB took a major step forward in supporting dairy farmers and veterinarians in the effective and safe treatment of mastitis.
Eye droppers
The eye droppers were a significant innovation for HDB. Why? Because correct dosing is essential. Our eye droppers ensure the perfect droplet size and a controlled release of the product. Especially with medication such as glaucoma drops, where every drop counts, accuracy is crucial.
We developed the molds ourselves that guarantee a consistent and reliable droplet size. In addition, we optimize both the shape and the material of the bottles so that less squeezing force is required.
This makes a big difference for patients with limited hand strength, such as the elderly or people with rheumatism. For them, stiffer bottles are often difficult to use. With our solutions, use becomes more comfortable, precise, and accessible.
In-house tool shop
At HDB, we have our own mold making facility, where we keep the entire process in-house. From design and technical drawings to final realization. This approach ensures that our know-how remains entirely in-house, allowing us to react quickly, work flexibly, and guarantee the highest quality standards.
We continuously invest in optimizing our molds. This allows us to produce more efficiently and supply our customers faster with larger volumes, without compromising on quality.
In addition, we strive for maximum precision in our molds. The more accurate the mold, the more consistent the end product and the longer the lifespan of both the mold and the product itself. This results in reliable performance and a sustainable solution for our customers.
Thanks to this expertise and control over the entire process, we at HDB are the ideal partner to develop new products together with clients. We actively contribute ideas from concept to final product and translate them into concrete, high-quality solutions.
